PDP Method

Welcome back!

This week, we dive into the importance of receptive skills in language learning. These skills—listening and reading—are essential for anyone looking to learn English with fluency. Receptive skills allow you to understand and process information, forming the basis for successful communication in any language.

In our class, we discussed effective strategies that teachers can use to help students improve these skills. From active listening exercises to guided reading activities, we explored various methods educators can implement to enhance learners' comprehension.

At the beginning of the class, we read an article about what people eat in Barcelona to assess the student's reading comprehension and information retention.

After reading, Teacher Orlando asked us: "What was the article about?", "How many meals do they have in Barcelona?", and "What foods are mentioned in the article?" The purpose was to validate whether we understood the reading and could recall specific details from the text.

Also, we delved into PDP lessons designed to enhance listening and reading comprehension.

The PDP method involves several key stages:

Warm-up: This phase helps students recall prior knowledge and information relevant to the topic.

Pre: This stage engages students by prompting them to think about the topic through various stimuli, such as questions, videos, images, sounds, etc.  It is also where students build their vocabulary.

During: The core of the lesson, this stage focuses on developing comprehension skills through targeted activities.

Post: Although not mandatory, this phase allows teachers to engage students in additional activities to reinforce and consolidate their learning.

By following these stages, educators can effectively support students in improving their receptive skills.

That’s all for this week! I’m excited to announce that next week, we’ll be starting our adventure in teaching real students. I’ll be sharing my experiences, challenges, and insights as we step into the classroom.

Don’t miss out on my upcoming posts where I’ll give you a behind-the-scenes look at this exciting journey. Thank you for following along, and I look forward to sharing more with you next week. See you then!
