Welcome to my blog!!

Another week of adventures at the university is over, it has been a bit tiring for me. Between classes and work it's hard to keep my concentration levels up.

Do not worry, despite that, I pay attention to my teacher as always!

Let´s start!

This week We learned that there is a principle called scaffolding which means that we are building, and constructing, we are going one step at a time. The principal says: that once you handle one level, you are good or ready for the next step. When people skip one step, they can continue with the process and get adapted but they may not develop the process the way they are supposed to.

The grammar translation method appeared because of the need to transmit beauty in literature and other things and to transmit knowledge to other generations.

DIRECT METHOD

Before starting to talk about the direct method, the teacher asked us some questions. Here are some of the answers from the class:

What’s your way of learning grammar?

  •         By listening to music
  •        By reading books
  •        By learning structures

How do you practice your listening skills?

  •         Watching cartoons
  •         Listening to stories
  •         Watching English television programs
  •         Listening to English podcast

How important are colorful visual aids for you? (on the learning process)

  •         Visual aids are important to develop my English skills.
  •         It helps us to remember specific topics in an easy way, especially if we have to learn structures.
  •        It helps us to have a better understanding of a concept.

The Direct Method

The direct method focused on listening, speaking, and the importance of making things appealing. This method is more focused on teaching in a more communicative way or more practical. To pay attention to what I’m listening to communicate.

The direct method is called the natural method, and it is often used in teaching foreign languages refrains from using the learner´s native language and uses only the target language.  This method was established in Germany and France around 1900 and contrasts with the Grammar Translation Method and other traditional approaches. The immersion principle is present in the direct method

The basic idea is that second-language learning should be more like first-language learning

CHARACTERISTICS

  •        The teaching in the classroom took place using the target language.
  •         The teaching approach for grammar involved inductive methods.
  •         Emphasis was placed on accurate pronunciation and grammar.
  •         Both speaking and listening comprehension were taught.
  •         Only everyday vocabulary and sentences were taught.

Finally, we remember something very important: The two fundamental methods from which all the others are derived (The Grammar Translation Method and the Direct Method ), were created because the knowledge that the human race has, must be preserved through writing. And the knowledge must be translated to be transmitted to everyone. The direct method was created from the need to remember that it is important to listen and speak and for the student to apply it to real life, pronouncing, and repeating, and with visual aids, to be learned naturally.

The class was very interesting and fun as usual. Thank you so much for reading, see you next week!
