Hello everyone, welcome to the blog of the week.
At the beginning of the class, our teacher made a recap of the previous class, focusing on the importance of rapport.
The teacher explained each point of the slides from last week's presentation. He highlighted the importance of understanding that teachers are normal human beings like every student, they have a normal life outside the classroom.
He talked about teachers having different roles in the classroom, keeping control and order, listening to students not necessarily in academics to understand them better, helping and directing students in their doubts, etc.
The main purpose of understanding the students or who they
are, is to make the bond stronger.
After explaining the presentation to our groups we made an activity of classifying Skills: Receptive Skills and Productive Skills.
How do you as a student learn vocabulary and grammar? Do you prefer concepts, discover the grammar, learning the structure?
Alison: She prefers learning vocabulary by practicing, watching videos, or listening to native speakers about grammar, she prefers reading a paragraph or a text and learning structures
Iliana: She prefers learning vocabulary by seeing images and she prefers learning grammar by watching videos, and reading.
Génesis: I prefer to learn vocabulary by understanding meaning and concepts and learning grammar by understanding structures instead of the name of the rule.
Then we responded some questions
Here are some of the answers:
What is grammar?
Alison: Grammar is the structure of the language
Iliana: Grammar is about new words, sentences, and concepts
Génesis: Set of rules of how language is structured
How do people learn grammar?
Alison: The most common way is using the grammar-translation method by imitating the structure of a text or doing activities like filling in the blanks.
How can I analyze form, meaning, and use for teaching purposes?
Génesis: First it is important to understand the sounds of words, their structure, their meaning, and how to use them in a sentence. Once they manage those aspects and how they are connected they will understand how the language works.
Vocabulary and grammar follow the same structure, it is different with composition.
To learn a language Item, students need to:
Be exposed: The more you are exposed to the language the better you will learn.
Graphic representation of the process of internalizing grammar and vocabulary:
Restricted exposure: Material to teach
The role of the teacher:
1) Monitor
2) Resource
3) Feedback provider
That is what we learned this week, hoping this semester finishes soon, see you later!
