ICQs and CCQs

Imagen
Welcome to this week's blog! Today, we’re diving into two essential tools for any language classroom: ICQs and CCQs. These simple yet powerful questioning techniques can significantly affect how well students understand instructions and grasp new concepts. Whether you're new to teaching or just looking to sharpen your methods, we'll break down what ICQs and CCQs are, why they’re so effective, and how you can use them to boost engagement and comprehension in your lessons. CCQs Let’s look at a teaching technique called “concept check questions” (CCQs) to help make sure students understand new words. Instead of asking, “Did you understand?”, try asking specific questions like, “Is a cosmopolitan city small?” This way, you see if they really know the meaning. CCQs are especially helpful for complex words or ones with multiple meanings. Preparing these questions helps you quickly check students’ understanding and adjust to their level. Try it, and you’ll see how much clearer...

Daily Routines- Listening + Reading

Imagen
WELCOME BACK! This week, we continued learning about daily routines, building on what we covered in the previous class. Through fun activities, reading exercises, and games, we strengthened our understanding of how to describe daily activities in English.  First class Daily Routines-listening In class today, we learned all about daily routines. Stephanie’s group started by explaining what a daily routine is – it´s the set of activities we do every day, like waking up, brushing our teeth, and going to work or school. To talk about these routines, we use the present simple tense, which is perfect for describing things that happen regularly.   Next, they showed us a video with different daily routines, and we practiced repeating some of the sentences we heard. This was a great way to learn vocabulary and see the present simple in action.   Then, something fun happened! We listened to the song TikTok by Ke$ha, but we noticed the structure of the sentences in the song wasn’t q...

Prepositios + Classroom Vocabulary

Welcome to this week’s blog! I'm excited to share with you the highlights of our recent classes and the valuable lessons my classmates have taught. Learning from them and seeing how they creatively approach different topics is always a pleasure.  This week, we explored two interesting subjects. The first was prepositions, where we learned how to properly use words like "in," "on," and "at" to describe location, time, and movement. My classmate made the lesson engaging with examples and interactive activities. The second topic was reading comprehension, which focused on classroom vocabulary. We practiced identifying common items like "desk," "chalkboard," and "projector," and applied this vocabulary in various reading exercises that helped us improve our understanding of the text. Both sessions were fun and informative! PREPOSITIONS Maddie’s group taught us about prepositions, specifically focusing on prepositions of ...

Classroom Vocabulary + demostratives

WELCOME BACK! In a recent class, two groups of my classmates took charge, each focusing on a different topic. One group introduced us to demonstrative adjectives, helping us master words like "this," "that," "these," and "those" to point out specific objects. Meanwhile, the other group covered vocabulary related to items commonly found in a classroom. Their teaching methods were engaging and practical, making it easy to grasp these essential language concepts while encouraging active participation from everyone.  Classroom Vocabulary Arocha’s group led an engaging lesson on vocabulary related to items commonly found in the classroom. They covered words like whiteboard, pencil, computer, fan, eraser, remote control, and desk, among others. Each item was clearly explained and demonstrated, making it easier for us to understand their usage and importance in the classroom. To reinforce our learning, they introduced a fun activity—playing the game of...
