Imagen
Hello everyone, it's me again, I thought last week's blog was the very last one but no, here I am. 😅  This week was supposed to be dedicated to studying for the midterm, however, we had to do some graded activities.    Several activities can be done with students during the class to improve their reading skills, pronunciation, and listening.  My classmates did some fun activities to help us with the aforementioned.   My group did an activity related to reading comprehension at an advanced level, we used skimming and scanning techniques to measure the comprehension skills of our classmates.   The midterm was canceled due to the 2024 Presidential Inauguration, again we will have to reduce the vacation days since we will have to go next week for other subjects , anyway, here I leave you with the pictures of the activities and I hope you like them, we had a lot of fun.  😁😁😁😁 This semester was filled with challenges, fatigue, stress, and a ...

Hello everyone! This is my last blog!! In this week's class, the teacher taught us the Jazz Chant technique.  The Jazz Chant technique, developed by Carolyn Graham, is a method used to teach English as a second language (ESL) through rhythm, repetition, and music. This approach combines spoken language with the rhythms of traditional American jazz music, making learning more engaging and memorable. Here are some key aspects of the Jazz Chant technique:   ·         Rhythm and Repetition: Jazz Chants emphasize natural spoken English rhythm and intonation. The repetitive nature of the chants helps reinforce language patterns and vocabulary.   ·         Listening and Speaking Skills: By chanting, students improve their listening and speaking skills. The rhythm and beat help learners grasp the stress and intonation patterns of English.   ·         Engagement and Enjoym...

Hello everyone, welcome to the blog of the week.   At the beginning of the class, our teacher made a recap of the previous class, focusing on the importance of rapport. The teacher explained each point of the slides from last week's presentation. He highlighted the importance of understanding that teachers are normal human beings like every student, they have a normal life outside the classroom. He talked about teachers having different roles in the classroom, keeping control and order, listening to students not necessarily in academics to understand them better, helping and directing students in their doubts, etc. The main purpose of understanding the students or who they are, is to make the bond stronger. After explaining the presentation to our groups we made an activity of classifying Skills: Receptive Skills and Productive Skills. How do you as a student learn vocabulary and grammar? Do you prefer concepts, discover the grammar, learning the structure?  Alison: She prefer...

HAPPY TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK Hello everyone!  Welcome to the blog of the week. This week we responded to the question: When you think about your teachers … what ideas come to your mind? These are the factors considered when describing teachers: The role of teachers in the classroom Their role as organizers before a lesson Their performance during activities (behavior) The rapport they establish with students (positive or negative) Their use of teaching aids (visual aids, gestures) Whether they are native or non-native speakers 1. Teacher roll in the classroom: Controller:  Leading from the front. Prompter:  Providing reminders when students forget instructions or tasks. Participant:  Actively engaging in class discussions. Resource: Providing assistance when students ask for help, such as explaining the meaning of a word. Tutor: Giving feedback on larger projects. 2. As an organizer: It is crucial to remember that teachers consistently plan, reflect on, ...

DESCRIBING LEARNERS

Hello everyone, welcome back! This week, we experienced a break from our usual classes and instead, we read a presentation on campus virtual, focusing on the topic of the week. Here are some of things I learned : DESCRIBING LEARNERS  To describe our learners, we should consider the following aspects: Age Learner differences Language levels Their motivation Background AGE YOUNG CHILDREN Children up to the ages of 9 or 10 learn differently compared to older children, adolescents, and adults in the following ways: They respond to the meaning even when they do not grasp each word individually. They frequently learn in an indirect manner rather than through direct instruction. Their comprehension stems from what they observe, hear, and importantly, from what they have the opportunity to touch and engage with.  They find grammar concepts difficult to grasp. They generally display enthusiasm.  ADOLESCENTS They are often labeled as troublesome students; y...
